The decisions

Four Choices That Decide How Your Vanity Turns Out

A vanity top is a small piece of stone with a surprising number of decisions attached. Make them deliberately at the measure and the job is straightforward. Leave them to be assumed and you get a top that technically matches the quote and is not what you pictured.

The sink, and who supplies it

Undermount sinks sit below the stone and give you that clean wipe-down edge. Vessel sinks sit on top and need a flat deck and a taller faucet. Integrated stone sinks are cut from the same material for a seamless look. Each one changes the cutout, the fabrication and the price. Decide who is supplying the sink, because the cutout has to be made for that specific sink, not a generic one, and get it settled before the top is cut.

Faucet holes and spread

A single-hole faucet, a widespread set and a wall-mount all want different drilling, and the spread has to match the faucet you actually bought. The cheapest way to avoid an expensive problem is to have the faucet on site, or at least its spec sheet, before we drill. Holes drilled for the wrong spread cannot be undone.

The backsplash

You can run a short stone splash along the back and sides, go full height behind the vanity for a more finished look, or skip stone entirely if you are tiling. Each option needs to be priced and drawn before install, because the wall behind a vanity is rarely flat and the splash is what hides that.

The edge profile

A simple eased or pencil edge suits most bathrooms and keeps the price down. A heavier ogee or bullnose reads more traditional and costs more to machine. Look at the edge on a real piece, not a line drawing, and see our Calgary edge profile guide for what each one actually looks like.

Straight talk

What Actually Goes Wrong on a Vanity Job

Most complaints about small stone jobs are not about the stone. They are about the things nobody agreed on in advance. Ask about all of these, of us or of anyone else you are quoting.

  • โœ“Who disconnects and reconnects the plumbing? This is the single most common gap. Taking out the old top means disconnecting the faucet and drain, and the new top cannot be sealed down until the sink is set. Get a clear answer, in writing, on whether that is included or whether you need a plumber booked for the same day.
  • โœ“What happens to the wall and the tile? Removing an old top that was glued or tiled in can take paint, drywall or tile with it. It is not carelessness, it is what happens, and it should be discussed before it happens so you know whether touch-up paint or a tile repair is on you.
  • โœ“Is the vanity cabinet level and sound? Stone is unforgiving. A cabinet that is out of level or has a soft, water-damaged top rail needs shimming or repair first, otherwise the new top telegraphs the problem. A proper measure catches this. A phone quote does not.
  • โœ“Is the old top removal and disposal in the price? Ask, and get it on the quote either way. It is a common line item to leave off a headline number.
  • โœ“Is this a firm price or an estimate? A price given over the phone from your photos is a ballpark and we will call it one. Once we have templated, the number is written down and itemized.

What it costs

Calgary Vanity Top Prices

Vanities are one of the few stone jobs where the material choice matters less to the final bill than where the stone comes from. A remnant and a full slab can be the identical product at meaningfully different prices.

Vanity jobWhat you getInstalled
Single vanity from a remnant Premium leftover stone from a kitchen job, cut to your vanity. Same stone, same fabrication, limited to what is in the yard that week. $400 to $900
Single vanity from a full slab You pick any stone in the collection rather than choosing from remnants, and the offcut is yours to use elsewhere. $700 to $1,600
Typical single vanity, quartz or granite The range most Calgary single vanities land in, depending on size, sink style and stone. $400 to $1,200

Double vanities, banjo tops, tub decks and shower curbs are priced on the piece. Ranges assume standard fabrication and installation in the Calgary area. Your firm number comes from the free measure, in writing, within 24 hours. Full material pricing is on our Calgary countertop price guide, and remnant availability changes weekly on the remnant page.

Be ready

What to Have Ready Before the Measure

Five minutes of preparation turns a vanity quote from a range into a firm number, and stops the two changes that cost the most later.

The faucet

Have it, or have its model number and hole spread. This is the one detail that cannot be corrected after drilling.

The sink

If you are supplying it, have it on site. If we are, tell us undermount, vessel or integrated and we will bring options.

A decision on the splash

Short stone splash, full height, or none because you are tiling. It changes both the price and the drawing.

Your cabinet plan

If the vanity cabinet is being replaced too, the new one has to be in and level before we template.

A plumber, if needed

Once you know who is doing the disconnect and reconnect, book it for the right day so the bathroom is not out of service overnight.

The room, cleared

Empty the vanity and clear the counter. Install on a single vanity is usually a morning, and a clear room keeps it that way.

FAQ

Vanity Top Questions

How much does a stone vanity top cost in Calgary?
A typical single vanity in quartz or granite runs $400 to $1,200 installed depending on size, sink style and stone. Remnant stone can bring that down further, call and ask what's available.
What's a remnant, and why is it cheaper?
Remnants are premium leftover pieces from full-slab kitchen jobs, ideal for vanities, laundry rooms and desks. Same stone, same fabrication, lower price because the slab is already paid for.
Can you do double vanities and tub surrounds?
Yes, double-sink vanities, banjo tops, shower curbs, jambs and tub decks. If it's stone in a bathroom, we fabricate and install it.
