How to Pick a Stone You Will Not Regret
A swatch is a marketing object. It is a small, deliberately flattering piece cut from somewhere on a slab, and it cannot tell you how a large expanse of that stone will read across your kitchen. Nearly every "it did not look like that" conversation in this trade starts with a decision made from a chip or a screen.
See the slab, not the sample
Ask to view the actual slab before it is cut. Veining scales. A pattern that looks refined on a hand sample can read as busy across nine feet of counter, and a subtle stone can disappear entirely once it is installed. Standing in front of the full slab settles this in about ten seconds.
Judge it in your own light
Stone changes character under north light, warm pot lights and a west-facing window at 6pm. Whites go creamy or go cold. Greys pick up green or purple. We bring samples to the in-home measure for exactly this reason: the only light that matters is the light in your kitchen.
Match the stone to the household
An engineered quartz that never needs sealing is a different proposition from a natural marble that will patina. Neither is wrong. But a honed light marble in a house with small children and red wine is a decision you should make on purpose, with the trade-offs said out loud, not discovered later.
Why We Print a Code on Every Stone
Stone naming in this industry is genuinely chaotic. The same quarry material is sold under different trade names by different suppliers, and marketing names get reused across completely unrelated stones. "Calacatta" alone covers a huge family of white stones with gold or grey veining, at wildly different prices and in different materials.
That is a real problem for a buyer, because a quote that says "calacatta quartz" is not a quote for a specific thing. Two companies can quote you what sounds like the same stone and be quoting different products at different costs. And a quote written that loosely is a quote that can be filled with whatever is convenient on cutting day.
So every stone on this page carries a colour code. Give us the code and we price that exact slab, and the name and code both go on your written quote. If you are comparing us against another company, ask them for the code too. It turns a vague comparison into a real one, and it is the single fastest way to find out whether two quotes are actually for the same material.

What Each Material Is Actually Like to Own
Every stone in the collection above is one of these. Prices are Calgary ranges, installed, per square foot, and where a stone lands in its range depends mostly on how rare and how dramatic the slab is.

What Should Happen After You Choose
The gap between choosing a stone and having it installed is where a countertop project can quietly go sideways. Here is what a well-run job looks like, so you can tell whether yours is one.
The stone gets written down
Name, code, material, thickness and finish appear on the quote. If it only says "quartz, white", you have no way to prove later what you were sold.
You see the slab
Before cutting, you look at the actual slab, in person or in a photograph of that specific slab. If the original slab is no longer available, you get told and you approve the alternative.
Seams are agreed in advance
You are shown where the joins will fall and why, and on a strongly patterned stone you are told how the pattern will carry across them. Nobody should be discovering seam locations on install day.
The quote is itemized
Material, square footage, edge profile, each cutout, removal and disposal of the old top, backsplash and install, listed separately with GST shown. A single lump sum hides where the money went and makes changes impossible to price fairly.
The price holds after template
A phone estimate is a ballpark and should be called one. Once a proper template is taken, the number should be firm. Ask directly what could still change it.
One team owns the result
The people who measured, the shop that cut and the crew that installs should answer to the same company. Every hand-off is a place for accountability to leak out.
