Most countertop companies in Calgary sell you stone and send the cutting somewhere else. We are the fabricator. That means an odd shape, a one-off piece or a job someone else called too small is just a normal day here.
Why It Matters
We Cut the Stone Ourselves
A lot of Calgary countertop businesses are sales operations. They take your measurements, order a slab, and hand the fabrication to a third-party shop. It works fine for a rectangular kitchen. It falls apart the moment your job is unusual.
- ✓Odd shapes are a scheduling problem, not a cost problem. When the saw is yours, an angled island or a curved return is a change to the cut file. When it is subcontracted, it is a renegotiation.
- ✓Small pieces are worth doing. A single sill or a replacement shelf never clears an outside shop's minimum. Ours has no minimum, because the machine is already running.
- ✓One company owns the outcome. Measure, cut and install are all us. There is nobody to point at if a piece comes back wrong, which is a large part of why they do not.
- ✓Factory-direct pricing. No middle margin between the slab and your quote.

What We Cut Beyond Kitchen Counters
Anything that can be cut from a slab, we can fabricate. The list below is what people most often ask us for. If what you want is not on it, ask anyway.
Fireplace Surrounds & Hearths
Full surrounds, hearth slabs, mantel shelves and floor-to-ceiling facings. Worth knowing: quartz contains resin and can discolour with sustained direct heat, so for a working firebox we will steer you to granite or porcelain instead.
Stone Table & Desk Tops
Dining tables, coffee tables, boardroom and reception tops, loose or fitted to a base you already have. Bring the base or its dimensions and we will cut the top to suit, including softened corners.
Curved & Custom-Shape Cuts
Radiused fronts, angled and multi-sided islands, extended runs, and bar overhangs that need their support planned rather than improvised. A curve is cut to a template, so it is the clearest test of whether a shop can actually fabricate. Straight waterfall islands have their own page: waterfall countertops.
Built-In Serveries & Bars
Coffee bars, butler's pantries, dry bars and servery counters built into existing millwork. Usually a matching-stone job, where the piece has to read as part of a kitchen that is already finished.
Window Sills, Thresholds & Shelves
Small cut-to-size pieces in stone that matches work you already have. These are the jobs most fabricators quietly decline. They are the ones we are most happy to take.
Full-Height Backsplashes
Stone running counter to upper cabinets instead of tile, cut from the same slab as the counter so the veining continues. Also the fix when a tile backsplash is the last dated thing in an otherwise updated kitchen.
Laundry, Mudroom & Utility Tops
Hard-wearing tops for rooms that take abuse. Often a good use for a remnant, which keeps the cost down. See remnant countertops.

Stone table top
Communal Table Top
A white quartz top cut with softened corners and set on a pedestal base for an office lunchroom. The same job as the kitchenette below, done at the same time so the stone matched throughout.
Custom-shape island
Angled Island
A calacatta gold island that is not a rectangle. Multi-sided, with the sink placed off the main axis. The kind of layout that gets simplified into a plain box when the cutting is subcontracted.
Built-in servery
Servery Counter
A veined calacatta top fitted into existing high-gloss millwork. Retrofitting into cabinetry that is already built leaves no tolerance, so this one was templated on site rather than cut from the drawings.
Reception desk
Curved Reception Desk
A calacatta front cut to a long S-curve, with the end mitred so the stone turns the corner and runs to the floor. A curve like this comes off a template rather than a tape measure, and there is no second attempt if the radius is wrong.

No Minimum
Yes, We Will Do the Small Job
The most common thing people apologise for on the phone is the size of their job. One sill. One hearth. A single shelf. A hole cut for a new faucet.
We do not have a minimum job size, and we would rather you asked than assumed. There is a practical reason it works: the shop is ours, the saw is already running for the day's kitchens, and a small piece is a short addition to a cut list rather than a separate job someone has to be talked into.
If a job genuinely is not worth your money, we will say that too. Sometimes the honest answer to a chipped counter is a repair rather than a new piece, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a slab.

How a Custom Job Runs

Tell us the idea
A drawing, a photo from your phone, a rough sketch on paper, or the old piece itself. None of it needs to be precise. We only need to understand what you are picturing.

Free measure and digital template
A technician comes out, usually for 20 to 45 minutes, and takes a digital template of the actual space. This is the step that stops a custom piece arriving slightly wrong.

Written quote in 24 hours
Itemised, so you can see what the material costs and what the fabrication costs. We do not quote custom work over the phone before the measure, because that number would be a guess.

Cut and installed
Fabricated in our Calgary shop and installed by our own crew, typically five to ten business days after you approve the quote. One year of workmanship warranty on the install.
Trade
Builders, Designers and Cabinet Shops
If you are specifying stone for someone else, you need a fabricator who reads a drawing, holds a date, and does not phone your client with problems.
- ✓Price from drawings. Send a cabinet plan or an elevation and we will quote from it, before anything is built.
- ✓Trade enquiries reach the owner. They do not sit in a general lead queue. A trade job with a site deadline needs a decision, not a callback slot.
- ✓Repeat and multi-unit work. Multiple identical units, show suites and staged handovers are all normal for us.
- ✓We stay off your client's phone. You brought the client. Questions come to you unless you tell us otherwise.

Materials
What to Cut It From
The right stone for a custom piece depends more on where it is going than on how it looks. Short version below, with the detail on each material's own page.
Quartz
The default for most custom work. Consistent pattern makes mitres and joints clean, and it never needs sealing. Avoid it against sustained direct heat, such as a working firebox, because the resin binder can discolour.
Granite
Heat tolerant, which makes it the safer pick for hearths and fireplace surrounds. Every slab is different, so for a custom piece we lay the cut out against the actual slab rather than a sample.
Porcelain
Thin, UV stable and very hard. The pick for outdoor pieces and anywhere weight matters, such as a top going onto a base that was not built to carry stone.

FAQ
Custom Fabrication Questions
Is there a minimum job size?
No. We fabricate one-off pieces as readily as full kitchens. A single window sill, one hearth, a replacement shelf or a small table top are all jobs we take. Because we run our own shop rather than sending the work out, a small piece does not have to clear a subcontractor's minimum before it is worth doing.
Can you cut stone to a shape I have drawn?
Yes. Bring a drawing, a photo, or the old piece itself, and it does not need to be to scale. For anything fitted to an existing space we take a digital template on site, so the cut matches the room rather than the drawing. That is what stops a custom piece arriving slightly wrong.
Do you supply stone cut to size without installing it?
Yes, for pieces that do not need fitting to a wall or a cabinet run, such as table tops, shelves and loose hearths. For anything built into a room we template and install it ourselves. A piece cut to somebody else's measurements becomes our problem the moment it does not fit, so we would rather take the measurement.
How much does a custom piece cost?
It depends on the material, the size, the edge profile and how many cutouts or mitres are involved. We do not quote custom work over the phone, because that number would be a guess and you would hold us to it. Can you match stone I already have?
Sometimes. Manufactured quartz can often be matched exactly if the line is still in production. Natural granite and quartzite vary slab to slab, so an existing stone can usually be matched closely but rarely perfectly. Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly which of those two situations you are in before you spend anything.
What warranty comes with custom fabrication?
One year on workmanship. That covers installation problems, such as a joint or an adhesive letting go. It does not cover chips or damage caused after installation, which is standard for stone. Care advice that genuinely extends the life of a surface is in our stone care guide.
Do you work outside Calgary?
Yes. Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere, Okotoks, High River, Langdon, De Winton and Strathmore are all regular for us, and custom work is no different from a kitchen in that respect.
